What Does this Season Bring @ Seasons Bistro?

Seasons Bistro as its name tells you, presents food that changes with the seasons. With influence from American cuisine, each dish on the menu tells a story and pays homage to their provenance across the various cities in America.

The spacious bistro is bedecked with warm wood furnishings against the expansive glass windows. It is an ideal location that offers a great view of the bustling streets of Somerset Road.

For starters, we had Popcorn Chicken ($14++), a dish of chicken and spicy popcorn complemented with Jamaican jerk sauce. It definitely gets my recommendation for originality. No one would have taken that name literally. Making for good beer food, or a snack to be shared with friends, this dish should be tried just because it is different from all the other popcorn chicken dishes out there. The popcorn is just a little spicy to give it that extra taste and the Jamaican jerk sauce gives it a smoky kick.

We also had Seared Yellowfin Tuna Taco ($14++) for starters. A combination of  avocado mayonnaise, pickled onions, crispy shallots, cotija cheese and cilantro jalapeno watercress salad on top of a tortilla shell, the whole dish tastes good eaten together even though the ingredients have different textures. The tuna was also fresh and nicely seared.

For mains we had Surf & Turf Gumbo ($27++). It was a mixture of shrimp, chicken, sausage, okra tomato stew with dirty rice, pickled onion, cilantro, chow chow relish and french bean salad. While it may closely represent our Asian version of Mui Fan or look like Fried Rice to you, it is so much more flavourful. It was once known as poor man food, a one pot wonder but with all these high quality ingredients used, it is definitely an upgraded version of it.

There was also the Deconstructed Salmon Spanakopita ($29++). It is a dish of pan roasted salmon with sauteed spinach, crumbled feta crumbs, hung yoghurt, Lemon Beurre Blanc, crispy leeks and olive oil caviar.

The salmon was light and refreshing and it had a very clean flavour to it. If you are a salmon lover, you will enjoy this dish.

We were introduced the Chargrilled Portobello Stack ($20++). A vegetarian dish, this dish was made specially for vegetarians in mind. Consisting of eggplant, pickled onions, cucumbers, salsa verde, tomatoes, herbed potatoes, goats cheese and spinach with maple balsamic reduction and crispy artichokes, there are many different flavours to it. Vegetarian food just got more exciting!

For desserts we had Black Forest Cake ($14++) and also Mojito Tart ($12++), a toasted coconut tart with mint lime curd & rum cream.
