Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner. Are you ready for some mooncake mania yet, or are you still caught up with the Singapore politics?

Man Fu Yuan of Intercontinental Singapore is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special commemorative design box that comes with their baked and snowskin mooncakes. The two-tiered box, designed by local illustrator Jacqueline Goh, boasts a detailed illustration of the hotel – perfect for stashing stuff at home, or to use as storage after indulging in the yummy mooncakes. Of course, this is all in plan for the nation’s Golden Jubilee… Nothing screams celebration more than having a little nostalgia here.

The mooncakes this year as usual, take on a different dimension from the normal flavours you get elsewhere. The Earl Grey and Baileys Truffle with White Lotus Paste is one that you should try if you are a fan of liquor-infused mooncakes. The molten liquor center bursts with baileys, and compliments the lightly sweet yet smooth lotus paste with a tinge of bitterness from the milky liquor.

If you like your matcha, you’ll be going crazy with the Japanese Matcha which has an aromatic flavour that comes through in your first bite. If you are not at all a matcha fan, fret not because there’s also the Oolong with Black Sesame Paste mooncake which has more texture and crunch, with a very strong sesame flavour from the generous amount of black sesame encased within the thin and chewy snowskin.

The pick of the lot however, would be the Rose with White Lotus Paste – which resembles having a fresh rose in your mouth. We are not kidding when we say that because the fragrance of rose immediately hits you when you cut through it, and lingers in your mouth until you start sipping your tea. Definitely a hit with the ladies, or if you want to impress your mother-in-law winks

Priced at $66 for an assortment of all 4 pieces, we think it’s worth the money, especially since it comes with the commemorative SG50 box that serves as a pretty memento. The mooncakes go on sale from 20 July – 27 September and can be self collected at Tea Hut. To place your orders, call 6820 8521 or email sinhb-festive@ihg.com.
